In the Transfiguration, Moses and Elijah embody two false ways of relating to God; Moses represents measuring your standing with God by your own obedience (works-righteousness), and Elijah represents measuring God's goodness by how well your circumstances are going (living by sight); and Jesus, the truly glorified one, rescues believers from both by securing their spiritual life in his glory rather than their performance or providence.
