He Is the True God & Eternal Life
John closes his letter by identifying the puzzling exhortation to 'keep yourselves from idols' as the central question of the whole epistle: since Jesus alone is the true God and eternal life who protects believers from sin and Satan and grants true knowledge of God, nothing else; money, entertainment, romantic love, or any good thing; may be allowed to claim the heart's ultimate trust and worship.
