This Good Friday service weaves together seven separate homilies, each offering a different theological answer to why Christ had to suffer, and closes with a penal-substitution account: because every person is guilty of sin whose wage is death, God required a perfect, blemish-less sacrifice, and Jesus; fully God and fully human; became that sacrifice so his shed blood, like the Passover lamb's, satisfies divine justice and covers human shame.
