The angel's announcement to Mary in Luke 1:26-38 carries three interlocking words; about Jesus as God the Savior who fulfills the whole biblical storyline, about God for whom nothing is impossible because he sovereignly upholds the universe by his word, and about Mary as a graced sinner who is a servant of that word; and together these truths defeat rationalist doubt about the virgin birth and ground our Christmas hope in salvation.
