John 17 shows Jesus' high priestly prayer moving through three movements; for himself, for his disciples, and for all future believers; revealing God's eternal plan to make himself known through the salvation of sinners, and assuring believers that they are kept, sanctified, and destined to see Christ's glory because Jesus himself intercedes for them.
